Former Black Stars defender Samuel Kuffour has, in a pompous manner insisted he owes no Ghanaian any apology after his back pass gave Italy their second goal in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
With seven minutes to end the game, and with Ghana pushing hard to grab an equalizer after Andrea Pirlo had shot Italy in front, Kuffour committed a kindergarten mistake to give a back pass to Richard Kingston for Iaquinta to grab Italy’s second.
Kuffour was exposed to heavy criticism for his mistake in gifting the Italians their second goal but he insists he owes no one an apology.
“What happened to me in Germany can happen to anyone because this is football,” he told Metro TV.
“I felt bad but after the match, I apologize to my teammates for my error.
Quizzed if has he ever apologized to Ghanaians, he said, “I will NEVER apologize to Ghanaians because I never went out to steal.
“I committed an error and IÂ have admitted that but I owe no one an apology.”
Ghana were crashed out of the World Cup after managing to qualify from the group stage after a 3-0 whipping by Brazil.
