Outspoken New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has donated several medical supplies to hospitals across the country to help the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The items are 100,000 pieces of facemasks, gloves, and 100 gallons of hand sanitizers. According to the MP, the items should be used by frontline workers in all the 16 regional hospitals in Ghana. Additionally, he donated about 200 hospital beds towards the fight against COVID-19 in Ghana.
Presenting the items to the government yesterday, Mr. Agyapong said the gesture formed part of his ‘widow’s mite’ to complement government’s effort to save lives in the country as the pandemic persists. He said he acquired those medical essentials in collaboration with his Chinese partners.
Receiving the items on behalf of government, a Deputy Minister of Health, Alexander Abban, highly commended the MP for his kind gesture. He said most of the traced cases were imported, with low community spread. He, therefore, called for vigilance.
The deputy minister said even though the situation in Ghana was not the best, the government would work hard to bring hope to the people. Responding to questions on calls for a lockdown, the he stated that the call for a lockdown had not come up at any meeting as being claimed. He said when the need arose, the Inter-Ministerial Committee on COVID19 would advise President Akufo-Addo accordingly.
